Cost Accounting Manager

Job Description

Job Summary:

Responsible for Cost Accounting department activities, price development support, and manufacturing budget and forecasting functions.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Four year degree in Accounting
  • Five plus years manufacturing cost experience in a standard cost environment with a minimum of three in supervision
  • High skill level with Microsoft Office applications and ERP systems
  • CPA or CMA a major plus 

Responsibilities:

  • Development of standard rates and costs
  • Performance reporting:
  1. Oversees staff in preparation of standard reports (daily production, yields, product profitability, pounds produced/sold, labor hours, line efficiency, downtime, etc.)
  2. Prepares sales reports
  3. Analyze variances (PPV, Usage, Efficiency, etc)
  4. Performance benchmarking
  5. Manufacturing OH spending analysis- actual to budget explanations
  6. Other specific analysis as requested
  • Profitability Analysis:
  1. Customer profit and loss
  2. Margin analysis(volume, mix, and rate)
  3. Review and explain manufacturing variances
  • Inventory:
  1. Responsible for valuation
  2. Assist inventory control in out of balances with ERP system revealed in the monthly reconciliation of inventory.
  3. Coordinate and manage the physical validation of inventory at all locations
  4. Monitor inventory for excess, obsolete and aged items, ensuring appropriate disposition of product.
  5. Various trend analysis
  • Price Development Support:
  1. Provide sale staff  and management with costing for existing and new products in support of product pricing
  2. Oversee standard costing process
  3. Identify ideal margins
  4. Impact analysis to product mix, production costs, capacities
  • Budgets and forecasting:
  1. Coordinate and control the fiscal budgeting and forecasting  activities
  2. Assist Operations in departmental budget development
  3. Manage product Sales budget
  4. Develop capacity by product, overhead rates, etc.
  5. Report and present Actual to Budget performance (by product, department, and variance line)
  • Risk and Group Insurance support
  1. Liaison with Risk insurance provider - COI requests, product liability claims, etc
  2. Coordinate group insurance activities
  3. Complete annual applications for renewals
  • Other duties:
  1. Direct and supervise staff related to above
  2. Staff development and growth
  3. Manage Fixed Assets - track, record, reconcile, etc.
  4. 263A tax reporting
  5. Effective utilization of resources
  6. Special projects as required by the company
